The store

Ardene's Southcentre location is a large open sales floor lit almost entirely from above: white track lighting runs across a curved white bulkhead ceiling, with the building's black-painted structure and ductwork open to view behind it. In a store like this the lighting does two jobs at once — it makes the merchandise look right, and it keeps the whole floor bright and even. When track heads start failing, dark patches appear over the racks and the store looks tired before anyone can say why.

The problem

By the time Ardene called, 8 heads were out and others were flickering / a mix of older halogen-style heads and newer LED heads that did not match / a full run had gone dark. Several of the photos from the morning show the mix on the ceiling: large older heads beside compact LED heads, and lit heads beside dark ones along the same run.

What we did

Walked every track run on the floor and checked the heads, the track connectors and the circuits feeding them.
Replaced the failed heads with new LED track heads matched to the existing white housings and the store's colour temperature, so the new light blends with the old.
Re-aimed the heads over the racks and display tables.
Fixed / tested the runs that were dropping heads: a failed connector.
Worked from ladders on the sales floor between 7 and 10 am, with the merchandise in place and the store opening on time.

The result

Every head on the floor working and aimed; even light across the racks; the LED heads draw roughly 90% less power than the heads they replaced. The store opened on schedule the same morning.
