How much does an electrician cost in Calgary?

Koop Electrical offers free flat-rate quotes for electrical work in Calgary, so you know the price before work begins. Small jobs like fixture installs typically run around $600, service panel upgrades $2,800 to $4,500, Level 2 EV charger installs around $1,500, and load management systems $1,500 to $2,000. Service calls are $150 for the first hour, then our standard hourly rate.

Is Koop Electrical licensed and insured?

Yes, Koop Electrical is a licensed City of Calgary electrical contractor, and the work is done by a Red Seal journeyman electrician (certificate #243510A). We carry full liability insurance, WCB Alberta coverage, and all work is permitted and inspected where required by the Canadian Electrical Code.

What areas does Koop Electrical serve?

Koop Electrical serves all of Calgary plus Airdrie, Chestermere, Cochrane and Okotoks. We are based in southeast Calgary and charge no travel fees within Calgary.

Do you install EV chargers?

Yes, we install Level 2 EV chargers for homes and businesses across Calgary, typically for around $1,500. Most home installations are completed in about half a day, and we can tell you up front whether your panel can handle the charger or whether a load management system or panel upgrade is needed first.

How much does a panel upgrade cost in Calgary?

A residential service panel upgrade in Calgary typically costs $2,800 to $4,500 with Koop Electrical, depending on amperage and panel location. Upgrading from 100A to 200A is our most common request, usually driven by EV chargers, secondary suites or major renovations. Where the utility service itself has to be upgraded, larger jobs can run $7,000 to $10,000, which is why we often recommend a load management system instead.

What is a load management system, and can it save me a panel upgrade?

A load management system lets your existing electrical service safely support an EV charger, hot tub or other large load without upgrading the whole service. It monitors what the house is drawing and automatically pauses the new load when the panel is near capacity. Koop Electrical installs load management systems for $1,500 to $2,000, compared with $7,000 to $10,000 for a full service upgrade. It is one of the biggest savings we can offer a Calgary homeowner.

Do I need a permit for electrical work in Calgary?

Most electrical work in Calgary requires a permit from the City, including panel changes, new circuits, EV chargers and suite wiring. Koop Electrical pulls all required permits and arranges inspections as part of every job, so homeowners don't have to handle it themselves.

Can you wire a legal basement suite?

Yes, suite legalization wiring is one of our core residential services. We bring the suite's electrical up to current code, including interconnected smoke/CO detectors, separate circuits, AFCI protection for receptacles, furnace interlocks with relays and the required inspections, and we handle the City of Calgary permit process.

Can you wire a detached garage?

Yes, detached garage wiring is one of our most popular projects. We run a feed from the house to a garage sub-panel sized for what you need (30A, 50A, 60A or up to 100A) and customize the space: LED lighting, direct ethernet from the house, smart switching, an electric heater, welder plugs, an EV plug, and dedicated 20A circuits so your workbench doesn't nuisance-trip every time you turn a tool on.

Do you install pot lights in existing ceilings?

Yes, pot-light retrofits are a quick way to make an existing living room, kitchen or basement feel modern and brand new. We install recessed LED pot lights into finished ceilings with minimal disruption, on new or existing switching, and take care of the permit where one is required.

Do you do commercial electrical work?

Yes, Koop Electrical wires new commercial construction, tenant improvements and retrofits across Calgary, including lighting systems, HVAC wiring, automation and service upgrades. We are bonded for commercial work and carry WCB Alberta coverage.

How fast can you come out for a service call?

We typically book service calls within one business day, with same-week availability for most troubleshooting and repair work. For quotes, we respond within 1 to 2 business days.
